Gabriel Iglesias said something so profound and no one realized it.

Americans, we love to vote… but we don’t vote for presidents. We vote for things like American Idol.

Sure, that bit was hilarious, but think about it. The majority of voters look at voting as a chore. Many times, all anyone thinks about is who has more blemishes on their record. You know the whole “I’m not voting for that guy” play. Yeah. That’s what smear campaigns do. It’s all propaganda to sway the people's opinions on the opponent.

That isn’t being informed. That’s being brainwashed.

My husband and I ignore the propaganda and look for facts. The best way we’ve found so far is by using Ballotpedia’s Sample Ballot Lookup. Just type in your address (where you’re registered to vote), select either English or Spanish, and click View Ballot.

Then select which election you’re planning to vote in.

You’ll arrive at a welcome page that explains what the sample ballot is for, how many candidates there are, and how long (more or less) the sample ballot will take. Then select whether you want the candidates' information to be concise or detailed and click Go.
