Moms Are Now “Mom-ing” Smarter, Not Harder

During the Covid lockdown, we’ve learned quite a bit. We’ve learned that teachers aren’t paid enough for putting up with our kids, nurses are severely overworked and underpaid, and moms are very much underappreciated.

Recently on Facebook, I’ve come across this cartoon created by Mary Catherine Starr (@momlife_comics) on Instagram in January 2022.

An online story from Motherly elaborates more on the full comic as well as how society makes moms everywhere feel. Go ahead and check it out. I’ll wait.

Because moms are constantly being told they’re not doing enough or just the standard, we’ve really kicked things up a notch in recent years. Forget take-outs, deliveries, and frozen fast foods. Moms are now meal planning, using instant cookers and crock pots, and making one-pan dinners!

TikTok has shown me lately that you can prepare an amazing dinner without slaving over a hot stove. From ten-minute preps that cook in one pan in the oven to dinners prepped in one freezer bag that are cooked in the crock pot throughout the day, moms are officially working smart at home. And apparently, they’re nice enough not to gate-keep!

What’s been a man’s world for centuries has now become a place of competition for women. You see it all the time in job places, in social circles, and even in the home. So women work twice as hard as men to get recognized. Moms even have to compete with their parenting partners, whether they live together or not.

Kids will usually favor one parent over another — that’s the hard truth. In most cases, kids will favor their fathers because they’re tough and fun. Moms are just, in my older kid’s words, “mean.”

But with no-fuss overnight breakfasts, four-ingredient healthy snacks, easy lunches, and dinners that cook themselves, moms have more time to focus on the things that matter… like their health.

My doctor recently told me that I need to relax and put my feet up every little while. I can only imagine how many doctors have to say the same to every other mom.
